Assessing the damage

My adult son is in the middle of intense cramming for a VERY IMPORTANT TEST. I'm doing my best not to panic, but the truth is....shhh...he is not quite ready. I know this because even though he took his first student admissions test without too much trouble, I can see the gaps in his knowledge.

Gaps, who am I kidding, the boy needs some remedial help RIGHT NOW. Somehow, even with great grades throughout school, there are some areas that school work itself won't cover. While, inherent skills and cognitive ability can be tested, it is much tougher to teach.

He needs to score big on this one in order to move along his goals. The adult basic education test is one way to really find out if the goal he has, actually lines up with his skills. It is not just his goals that are at stake. The potential employer has goals and wants someone who has the ability to do the jobs they put before them....

So, what I am saying is I have to step back and let him fate play out. This goal, while mighty awesome, may not in fact be the direction he should go.

Trust the test.

I certainly didn't end up in the direction I started at 19, so I have to let him find his way. He can fill out an online student profile, take admissions test, pre-employment tests and keep moving in the direction of his dreams until the stars line up.
