Always Learning - August 2011

Always learning something...

August 26th 2011 14:09

Like the name of this blog, I am always learning. Recently found that Zappos coupons are a simple way to save money on purchases I would be making anyways. After several disheartening fails in the saving department, I have resolved to make a real change.

Latest fail, I sent my oldest son off to the sporting goods store to pick up new running shoes...he found really nice trainers.

He loves them...and so does his little brother who wanted a similar pair.

Once I found out how much he spent though, I had to search for an alternative, and remembered (a little too late) how my mom had told me to search for discounts online.

Punching in Zappos coupon codes, I found some amazing deals. While I can't take back my oldest son's shoes since he already ran several miles in them...I can use those as an expensive reminder to always check for shoes.com coupons before making a purchase. AND TEACH MY KIDS TO DO THE SAME! Finding the exact pair of running shoes for more than half the price is a win-win. Knowing how to stretch their dollars is a life skill that will always come in handy.

Educational items, printer ink, back to school supplies and more and more and more...can be purchased at huge discounts. Take a look and stay in control of your cash....I sure learned my lesson!

Aside from meeting new people, there are three major players you need to acquaint yourself with, Fear, Courage and Gratitude.

Read about these characters here

Finally, the best advice for freshman year I have ever heard is to "break your mirrors."

That means instead of being self-absorbed and overly concerned about how you look, take more time building

Who you ARE.

If you find yourself with free time, volunteer somewhere.

Be a part of something outside yourself.

This is a great cure for homesickness or depression, and it will put you touch with the pulse of the world around you.

BIG outdoor art!

August 12th 2011 21:22
Really Long Link

Before your kids head back to school, let them end summer BIG. Big backyard art projects are a great way to release some of the anxiety surrounding school preparation. The following projects are more fun when done with a friend or two, besides, containing the mess in one backyard is good for everyone.

Freeze Paint
Another project you probably won't want to tackle once school starts up in the fall, are freeze pop paintings. For this project you will need Popsicle molds, or small paper cups. Fill mostly full with water. Add a tablespoon of dry tempera paint powder and stir well with a craft stick. Popsicle molds have a built-in holder, paper cups will need to be covered with aluminum foil so a craft stick will stay in place as it freezes.

Once frozen, take the paint pops outside to paint on a piece of poster board or butcher paper. The coolness of the paint makes outside art bearable on a hot day.

Little help

August 12th 2011 21:12
Heard of essay services? The companies that jump in and fill the gap for overwhelmed students?

Whether you are an A student, a star athlete with an important tournament approaching or just an average student who hasn't quite got his "sea legs" yet, essays can be the bane of a students college life. Get a little help from your friends with a service that holds your hand through the process.

Professional writers can help make you look good and give you an example of the quality that professors expect. Writing does not come easily to many students. Some kids can understand the course work, score high on tests and be able to perform the job and still not be able to write excellent essays.

Jump in the deep waters of college life with the help of a reliable essay service. You want one that is available the hours you need, namely 24-7. There is not a moment off for college kids whether they live on campus or commute, everything is about racing toward the finish line of a degree.

Essay services can give you the breather you need in the midst of the crazy, mad paced schedule. Part-time jobs on or off campus, sports, clubs and personal events can throw off a routine, but don't let them throw off your grades.

SHARK WEEK is here. In honor of this prestigious week-long event, take a BITE out of the onslaught of junk mail that fills your mailbox, desk and then ultimately trash bins.

You too can prevent junk mail

When the kids head back to school, you know the onslaught of paper will start filling your desk again. While you cannot very well stop the worksheets and papers from the teacher. You CAN limit the amount of advertising that comes to your door each and every day.

Personally I’m on the Do Not Call list and have stopped SOME of the weird phone calls that used to come at dinner….but was thrilled to see there is a way to stop the garbage from entering my home.

It’s not just the clutter I’m talking about…there is the issue of WASTE.

Green, anyone?

Yikes. I’ve read that Americans get up to 90 billion pieces of junk mail each year….and the little privacy issue this raises. Here’s the cycle, consumers order something online, their info is sold/shared with other companies who want to tap into your pocketbook….they send you mail…

STOP THE MADNESS

opt out.

and go back to your regularly scheduled SHARK ATTACKS

Best backpacks for a first grader

August 2nd 2011 13:23

Children going back to school have a lot on their minds. Many are nervous about showing up with the right clothes and accessories. The right backpack not only has to be in style, but be functional. It is tough to be cool with a broken backpack strap, or a wonky wheel on a rolling backpack.
