Ready or not, here it comes! School

School is starting in less than a month.....AAAAAAhhhh!!!!! I wasn't nervous until the class lists came out, somehow all the excitable, rowdy, ADHD boys have signed up for my classes....and apparently they are quite excited, according to their soccer coach. He tells me they were discussing the PARTY they get to have all year in sculpture class...(my sculpture class)
I'm a wee bit nervous.
Now, I'm not new to teaching, and certainly am not afraid of a mess, in fact I've been teaching a class called "Creativity Explosion" for several years. The difference is that I've been pulling teeth to get the kids in those classes to loosen up and try new materials, in new ways...I do not think I will be having that problem this school year. Nope, not at all. Hopefully I can keep the materials from flying through the air, off the ceiling and especially out of my hair
Typically, my first class starts with some variation of a team building activity. Regardless of what you teach, or what age group you work with, teaching a class to work together and LISTEN to instructions is a great place to start.....where it goes from there is anybody's guess.
